Well I guess it had to happen. Or, at least, to be proposed. This page is the development wiki for Sloodle - 'Second Life With Moodle'. "Imagine a Moodle course that, if you wanted, could turn into a proper 3D interactive classroom with all your Moodle resources available to your students in the virtual world." This is very doable, since you can import external objects (such as videos) into Second Life. To me, the greater challenge will be fusing an open source LMS into a commercial 3D environments. Good article on the current state of the learning management system (LMS), perhaps best summarized by the author: "The LMS is an environment for managing course logistics and for promoting learning. Changes in IT that we're all observing can threaten and ultimately defeat the LMS, if LMS vendors don't adapt appropriately to that changing environment. Learner Identity Management Framework

The topic of personal identity - and therefore, learner identity (though not everyone considers the latter to be a subset of the former, which is a problem) continues to increase in importance in educational technology circles. This is, to my mind, a symptom of the reality that learners are affiliated less and less with a particular institution, which is a good thing. But what will a Learner Identity Management Framework (LIMF) look like? I have some concerns with this report tabled in Australia. For example, it calls for "A Trust Scheme" that "involves establishing ground-rules such that the owners of information can be confident that any data they transfer will be handled appropriately by the recipient." Time Management Strategies for Online Teaching

The authors consider the need for different time management strategies on the part of online instructors. Probably the best advice offered is to use the tools that are available - a little time spent learning how a tool is best used can save a lot of time in the long run. I would probably have added a section on sharing the workload, both with students (who can to a large degree answer each others' questions and moderate their own forums) and with colleagues (who can share notes, references and other resources).
